Muslim “Commission” on Local/State Politics
A number of community members have reached out to me to ask for analysis of candidates on the recent-most election ballot, on explanations of the structure of the U.S. government & what different government positions do. To this end, I recorded a video as well as gave private responses, the video you can watch HERE.
In general, my recommendation is for the community to come together regardless of zipcode, tax bracket, heritage, spoken language, etc. and put forward our local scholars & those learned in both the structure of the government as well as those whose command of the English language will help in reading voting records, the language of amendments proposed at the local & state level, to meet collectively & agree on positions to take that do not contradict our aqidah & Islamic tradition that would then be passed onto the general laypeople so that local & state votes from our community becomes influential based on the sheer volume of votes from the local Muslim community. This would have to be spearheaded individually as opposed to being spearheaded by the masaajid because there are restrictions on 501c3 religious nonprofits in terms of “political engagement”.
